It’s Open Studio time again! This course is designed to get you out of your creative rut and to help you realize your potential as a digital artist. The course will take you through several creative techniques to inspire you and to open up new possibilities with Corel Painter. You will begin with simple exercises and progress to more complex paintings that will encourage personal growth. Two live sessions are scheduled each week for your enjoyment.

Intermediate to Advanced
- Painter 12.2 or Painter X3
- Although not required a headset with microphone is encouraged for live meeting participation.
- A computer capable of running Corel® Painter™ 12/X3
- A pressure sensitive graphics tablet, such as those made by Wacom
When your material for the class is ready I will ask that you download the files and create a folder where you can store all your class content. Your instructor will notify you when resources are ready for you to download. Students will receive various brush categories, paper and pattern libraries. Included in your class is a large assortment of images, textures, patterns and watercolor overlays. Content is for your own personal use and is not to be redistributed.
Getting Your Feet Wet!
To strengthen you skill set we will begin with a very simple exercise. Students will develop one painting based on the concept of negative painting which you will learn to see negative shapes. This exercise is important to help you see shape and develop shape in your digital paintings. Shapes can just appear and the digital artist should recognize and take advantage of the moment!
With your homework complete, your instructor will introduce you to several new techniques, the student will begin with very basic concepts and the following week progress into more complex techniques. Techniques will include working with overlays, composite methods and more. Students will enjoy two live sessions this week. Karen will demonstrate each new technique for you which will help you to feel confident and secure as you begin.

Discover Composite Methods and How They can Change Your Art!
Students will progress to more challenging projects this week including still life, portrait and landscape. Techniques covered in Week 1 will be applied and taken even further. You will be delighted with your paintings and the possibilities it will open for you, giving you fresh and new ideas.
Students will use this week to post additional paintings developed from the class. The classroom will remain open for updates and discussion until October 31st.
